Filipino folktales about love

In the early generations of a well-endowed Philippine society, the art and creativity of storytelling most especially to young children has been cultivated over the years, for it is believed as the byproduct of an instinct that was universally implanted in the inherent faculties of man. In addition, Hartland became a chairman of the folklore section of the International Folklore Congress in London in Going back to the subject matter about Philippine Folktalesthe Filipino cultural identity can never do without their habits of sharing with other people spooky and unusual chronicles about the realms in the other dimensions or heartwarming fables and love stories in folktale patterns.

In a country like the Philippines, the folktale confabulation has been broadly used to literally pertain to any short narrative in prose form, which is orally said among rural or native communities.

More so, these literary narratives are distinctively differentiated from literary other concepts like myths, legends and many others. To clearly characterize each one of these, myths are known to be as prose narratives which are considered to be real and truthful accounts, which had occurred in a remote past within a society, from which it had originated.

As such, these are stories which happen to be likely integrated in a particular religious faith. Likewise, they are being taught and conditioned in the evolving and creative psyches of the Filipinos for them to be believed.

Primarily, myths are categorized as dogmatic in nature. Therefore, they are said to be sacred and usually associated with rituals and theology. Similarly, the characters who are involved in myths are most of the time human beings.

For instance, they can be any of the following: Deities, animals and cultural heroes whose actions are set in an ancient or earlier world; meaning, it was when our present existential haven was still in a primitive state.

Lastly, they are those stories which were accountable for the following turn of events: The beginning of the world, geographical features and other natural phenomena.

Meanwhile, legends are prose narratives which are somehow similar to myths. However, their major difference is that they were set in a period of time; which was less remote. Also, they are more significantly classified as more secular in nature and content rather than sacred. As for its characterization, these Filipino narratives tell about migrations, victories, deeds of past heroes, kings or chiefs and dynasty successions. On the part of folktales, they are narrative literary which are depicted as fictions or not existing in reality.

They are not in any way considered as dogmatic or historic in form and in composition. Insofar as its other literary qualities are concerned, they might or did not happen at all. As a result, folktales are totally fictitious. Among the other kinds of these literary creations are the following: human, animal trickster, dilemma and formulistic tales.

The myth says the cruel king learned of the affair, and became furious. He ordered Guita to stop seeing Sampa and cut the madness. The myth says, the king threatened his daughter about continuing the love affair.

But, the myth says, the king ordered an unrelenting search and destroy mission until Sampa and Guita. The soldiers left no stone unturned and vowed to fulfill their mission by any means. But instead of triumph, he felt deep remorse and repented of his wickedness, though too late. The myth adds that the king wished that Sampa and Guita would live again so he could ask their forgiveness and give his approval to their love affair. The myth says that after several days, the king, terribly disheartened by the death of the couple, went to the tomb of the lovers in the forest.

He was surprised to see a healthy shrub with white flowers that emitted a strong and unique fragrance. Since then the king called the flower Sampaguita. True love is said to be strong and eternal, not even the grave can stop it. Not even a furious king and his kingdom, this myth shows readers.

With numerous indigenous tribes spread over several thousands of islands, the country is rich with legends, myths, and Philippine folk tales that speak so much about our history and culture. It is a shame, therefore, that our children are more familiar with the tales of the Western world.

Mother Goose rhymes are sung and read from the time babies are in the womb, and fairy tales are told and retold in the early years. And why not? These are much more accessible than Philippine epic stories that are usually found in uninspiring and antiquated anthologies.

With technology and globalization, our children are admittedly steeped in Western books and culture. It is our responsibility as parents to introduce to them the wonderful world of Filipino folk tales and start telling them the tales we have heard in our own childhood.

Pinang was a beautiful but lazy girl. One day, her mother got sick and asked her to cook food for them. Having never really done anything around the house, Pinang refused at first. After this, Pinang was never seen again. A strange yellow fruit with a hundred eyes, however, was soon found growing in their backyard. A monkey and a turtle were once friends. One day, they saw a banana-plant floating on the water. They decided to split it and planted each half. Monkey thought the top part was better, so he planted it and watched in dismay as it died.

Turtle planted the roots and was rewarded with a fine tree with fruits. But since he could not climb to get the bananas himself, he asked Monkey to get it for him. The cunning simian, however, ate all of the fruits! In retaliation, Turtle put sticks around the tree and then tricked Monkey to go down, killing him. Children might identify with and root for the turtle. In the early days, the sky hung low and people could easily reach the clouds.

Inday, a beautiful girl who was given family heirlooms for her sixteenth birthday, loved to wear her precious necklace and comb even while she worked. One day, as she was husking rice with a mortar and a pestle, she put her jewelry on a cloud to avoid spoiling them. As she pounded on the rice with her pestle, one end also pounded the sky.

Before she knew it, the sky went up high with her heirloom pieces. In time, her comb became the quarter moon and the beads of her necklace became the stars. Since 2000, the size of glaciers on Iceland has reduced by 12 per cent. Floods destroyed eight bridges and ruined crops such as wheat, maize and peas in the Karimabad valley in northern Pakistan, a mountainous region with many glaciers.

In many parts of the world, glaciers have been in retreat, creating dangerously large lakes that can cause devastating flooding when the banks break. Climate change can also increase rainfall in some areas, while bringing drought to others.

A river once flowed along the depression in the dry earth of this part of Bangladesh, but it has disappeared amid rising temperatures. Sindh province in Pakistan has experienced a grim mix of two consequences of climate change. Crops are very difficult to grow. The region has been badly affected by heatwaves and drought, making local people nervous about further predicted increases in temperature. A factory in China is shrouded by a haze of air pollution.

Water levels in reservoirs, like this one in Gers, France, have been getting perilously low in areas across the world affected by drought, forcing authorities to introduce water restrictions.

Climate models are vital tools for scientists attempting to understand the impacts of greenhouse-gas emissions. But the climate system is incredibly complex, and as a result there is disagreement about how best to model key aspects of it.

The Myth on the Undying Love of Sampaguita

This means scientists have produced dozens of climate models predicting a range of different global warming outcomes resulting from greenhouse-gas emissions. To do this, Dr Caldeira and his collaborator Dr Patrick Brown reasoned that the most accurate models would be the ones that were best at simulating climate patterns in the recent past.

Their conclusion was that models with higher estimates were more likely to be accurate, with the most likely degree of warming 0. The research by Dr Brown and Dr Caldeira focuses specifically on models of energy flow from Earth to space, as measured by satellites. They suggest that the amount of sunlight reflected away from the planet by clouds will decrease as the world gets warmer, increasing the magnitude of climate change.

However, experts also warn that there is need for caution when predicting such complex phenomena as climate change.
